Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me on this one.

I have this Sun system which I somehow do not have keyboard or mouse, or
display access to. But I do have a crossed cable connection from my PC to
the system. Is there any way that I could detect what IP settings is the
system using (gateway, subnet, ip, etc) the crossed cable connection?
Thanks!

When the other machine was Solaris, too, you could snoop the network for
ARP/RARP messages. Don't know what can be used on a PC, but I'd look for a
util doing the same as snoop, then power the Sun on and wait for ARP/RARP
messages.....
But why not connect a null-modem cable to SerialA port (9600 baud).....??

Regards,
Eddie

Considering that too, just that I haven't gone out to buy it yet

Download ethereal from www.ethereal.com and install it on your pc. It
is a free network protocol analyzer (does everything snoop does and
more). Listen on the wire and see what you see...

Hi

Null modem, simple, I bought tow ultra 30's and had the same problem and
after mucking about trying to sniff the startup i decided it was much
simpler to just buy a null modem cable and use hyperterminal from the PC
to connect to the console - then its easy!!

hth

kind regards

Pete
