Hello. I have noticed an odd behaviour in Linux installation, and
would appreciate any help on it. It seems the problem exists in both
Red Hat 8 and SuSE 7.3 that I have tried (I note that IT DOES NOT
APPEAR in SuSE 8.1 that I have tried yesterday).

In particular, when starting a new installation and trying to
partition the disk, I have tried to put /var/mail in a SEPARATE
partition. This seems unacceptable by the installation, resulting in
the following error message (in SuSE 7.3) when starting copying files:

Package aaa_dir returned an error
Do you want to see the log file?

The log has the following:
--------
Installing aaa_base....OK
Installing aaa_dir....ERROR

(THE MESSAGE IN RED HAT IS SIMILAR)

I am confident this has to do with the /var/mail partition (no
problems when not creating it). Yet I really want this filesystem on a
separate disk (and partition), that's why I could really use some
help. I have also tried Solaris to create the same partition table,
with no problems at all.

Thank you
Bill Marcum

I don't know why this should cause an error (maybe you don't have enough
room in your other partitions?) but you could just create a partition
and mount it as /var/mail after installing.
