Author Password Error...

Hi All,

We're running our NIS master on a SPARC and every once in a while
I get this error in /var/adm/messages:

Sep 11 12:19:26 nis passwd[8885]: invalid name field: "

I'm pretty sure the 8885 (as it's different each time) is the PID of the
YP request at the time of the error, just can't figure out what line has the
error, or what I need to search for, to narrow it down.

It only happens a couple of times a day, and I know the YP push happens
more frequently than that, I'm wondering if it's whenever this user logs
into the system (or attempts to).

I've done searches in the passwd file on the stuff I could think of, like
slashes,
quotes, etc... But nothing wrong turns up.

It's SunOS 4.1.4

TIA
Steve

I googled for "invalid name field" and came up with a message
from the sunmanagers list (from 1996). Does this help you?

Found it!

using pwchk I was able to find a blank line in the passwd file.

Thanx again.
Steve
