Where is history of the free software ?

| Hi,
I'm looking for information on free software "what is actually a
free software ?", and the "gnu" project and history of the "free
software"
If them anyone able to provide me with any resources on the subjects

Have you tried gnu.org and fsf.org? bsd.org might also be good.
