| I am an engineer trying to get a SGI box (Octane 2 / 6.5) up on the
network and get the error TCP Error: Network is unreachable .... when
I bring up a netscape browser. Ping, telnet and information in the
hosts and resolv.conf files are fine. What small thing is this
(seemingly stupid) engineer missing!

You didn't mention ping and telnet and http /to where/.
You might want to compare the respective addresses to the routing table
to see where it goes wrong. tcpdump what netscape does if you have to.
