| If system is running, could I sue cpio command to archive file?
And, I have an archive xxx.cpio which are archive from /etc directory. How
to open and update the file,
then archive it again. tks.

If I understand what you're asking, you want to update an existing cpio
archive. tar (and star) can do this but not cpio, AFAIK. Use a
different tool, one that supports what you're trying to do.
