Not another flamewar over what is or is not Unix, please!
Yeah, if one applies the strictest of definitions, none of the systems is
Unix, but all have unix-like capabilities and features and, in the case of
the BSDs, can be counted as siblings of current Unix, if not progenitors.
If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's
probably a duck.

Please, not another flamewar over what is is is not Unix!
While it's true that by the strictest of definitions the named systems are
not Unix, it's also true that all have the look, feel and capabilities of
Unix and, in the case of the BSDs, are derived from the parent stock from
which the unices you name descend.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it's
probably a duck, no matter what you might call it otherwise.

More to the point, the original poster wants to learn unix administration.
All of the suggested open-source systems will do that.

....and after a while, all ducks can be made to do the same things,
regardless of the plumage.

Are you taking don kool's role as taliban here ? As differences between
the branded un*x is as big or even bigger then the differences between
the originals ( *BSD and the Linux distributions).
Learning several of the above is definitly a plus, only playing
around with the "branded" ones is more and more a fading niche.

SysAdmin is an engineering profession. The idea that you can download
a copy, set up a box, and be an admin is a bit like thinking you can
download a bridge kit, install an exchange between 2 Interstate
highways, and be a civil engineer. It doesn't work that way. A real
program to learn SysAdmin takes years. Setting up a box is a most
excellent starting point sort of like a trip of a thousand miles
starts with one step, but it is only the beginning. In fact it is the
beginning of a grand adventure, so start today but also realize it's
not like becoming a waiter. Skilled labor jobs have apprenticeships
that take years to complete and the amount of skill needed to be an
SA is very large. If you can become a welder in a year, expect to
take several. And expect it to be worth it because you can work in
the field during that time and do worthwhile tasks.
In addition to practice setting up boxes, seek employment in the IT
department of some company and get an experienced SA to mentor you.
There is a mentoring program through SAGE so consider starting with
them.
