Well, version 4.5 doesn't work on Solaris 10, that's what I now. We took a
chance to change our backup system to amanda, instead of paying Veritas
support...

How's that working out for you? I've always wanted to set that up, but
have always had obstructive policies, and/or not enough time, keeping
me from doing so.

Amanda is working fine here (have been using it for a number of
years). It's a bit of a PITA to set it up, restore is not too easy, but
overall, we have good experience with it. Support large number of tape
drives and tapes, and is strictly CLI and ASCII config files.
I was using NetBackup 4.5 on one tape changer (Sun StorEdge L7) for the
simple reason that we got it with that HW.

Forgot to add: amanda still doesn't support multiple tape volumes, but it's
apparently being worked on. However, this is not a problem for us. We are a
rather small site, no enterprise -- our backup is about 200GB to 4
different (DLT) tape drives.
