Anyone else noticing a drastic upturn in the number of emails and phone
calls from headhunters, or is that just a regional Midwest thing?

I'm midwest these days, but many of mine are from
out of region. The upturn happened months ago. I
turned on my DICE profile and hardly an hour later
my phone rang. I had to remove my phone number and
resave my DICE profile.

Interesting stuff - My profile include EMC. In
addition to the storage company it also stands for
"ElectroMotive Compatibility". Someone is running
a search for IEEE and EMC looking for electrical
engineers in that specialty. I'd never heard of it
until recently but I just got an invite to a
conference.

Is Calgary "regional Midwest"? maybe.

In Calgary (+++ Oil&Gas companies) it has been DEAD for Unix SysAdmin work
for about 3 years; suddenly several hh calls from out of the blue. Started
last month. Not all EMC; perf monitor/analysis, Solaris/AIX support, the
usual thing really. A friend who's been out of decent work for about 4 years
got a cold call from someone who googled "perl AND Calgary" & found his web
page; he was hired right at the interview.

Yes, it's heating up out there. About time.
