PC-BSD not suitable for an average user:

Here is my experience with pcbsd.

My Spec:

Pentium D processor 2.80GHZ 800 MHZ FSB 2 MB l2 cache with SATA 80 GB
HD
Asus P5RD2-VM Board
ATIRC 410
ULI M1575 SATA

1. I have down loaded freebsd 6.1 and installed text mode is working
but GRAPHICS MODE IS COMPLETELY DISORDERED. I think the problem with
atirc410 ( How I install driver for ati chipset from Motherboard CD
give the procedure) . I have tried with intel original chip set and
then the graphics mode is ok. So I leave it and back to my windows. (3
days work laps!)

2. Recently I have downloaded pc bsd 1.2 and installed. In the graphics
installation mode there is no harddisk partition utility displayed. So
I go to the manually partition and created the freebsd partition. The I
wonder there is no way to quit from the partition setup program. With
the knowledge of freebsd (1) installation I give the option 'Q'
then quits from fdisk.

a. Fdisk gives a geometry error with free bsd and pc bsd. But all other
os reported no error with the geometry. Why ???

3. After installation graphics mode is working but a lot of problem
arises

1. sysinstall is probing.... probing... probing ...infinitely. ???
giving errors one by one.....

2. Can't detect built in nic card realtek 8168 (again how I can add
the driver from MB CD). ???
3. dc0 : rx tx error ???
4. can't change the ip of one additional nic card
( Ist installation shows the administration option and IInd
installation doesn't shown the some bottom parts of the dialog box.(
the administration mode dosen't shown)

Therefore I leave it.

4. So I have downloaded the 1.3beta 2 version and tried but graphics
installaion screen disorder ( some colours on the screen and
alt-cntrl-del is working on alt-f1 screen. ( the same screen I get on
installing x11 mode on freebsd 6.1)

Another 4 to 5 days works laps again!!!

Why are you posting this in comp.unix.admin?

If you want to help volunteer driven projects like PC-BSD, best talk to
them. This is a discussion group, not a place to vent frustration.

Not relevant to PC-BSD, even though they are in some way related.
Also, your speculation as to why it didn't work is useless without
verification and at least trying to fix it.

[lots of complaints with not enough hard data to go on]

Your choice. Fine. Not relevant enough to generalise from, as you did
above. It only means you failed, but it doesn't tell anybody whether
PC-BSD could possibly be improved to help you.

[lots of frustration]

If you are serious about helping PC-BSD becoming available for you,
learn how to do it in a useful way. A nice introduction, called _How To
Ask Questions The Smart Way_, can be found at

http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

I'm telling you this because what you wrote contains nothing but your
frustration. It does nothing to help people determine what went wrong.

What you need to do is to meticulously document what you expected and
in what way it didn't live up to those expectations, plus the details
of what the system's reaction was. Then, and only then, can technically
competent people look at it and attempt to help you.

As it stands, for your readers the only sensible reaction is to either
shake their heads and ignore it or to tell you how to do it better. It
is up to you to make your complaint into something the PC-BSD people can
work with.
