Hi Guys,

The sunv490 are shipped with DB-25 adapter (Sun part number
530-2889-03)
And when the brought v210 they had the db-9. As far As i can tell the
only diff is the db-25 can only be plugged to LTP1 port of regular
desktop but doing so doesnt get itto work. Whereas I plug in the db-9 i
get terminal access to whatever machine I plug the rj45 in.

Anyone know know to get the db-25 to work to desktops? (db-25 to rj45
the rj45 gets plugged to serial port on the server)

Or

Is there such a product as usb to rj45. So I can plug usb in the back
of the laptop and rj45 to the back of the server?

Thanks
Joe

Female db25 socket on the frame is usually for parallel cables/devices
(LPT and such), male db25 for serial. 9-pin serial to 25-pin serial can
be converter with a simple passive adapter sold in every computer shop.
I doubt there's something as simple that convers parallel to serial,
or serial to USB.

V210 has no parallel port.
The "console" serial port has RJ45 socket, the "general purpose" serial
is a male db9.
To connect serial RJ45 to a serial db9 or db25 port of a management
workstation,
you need a "headshell" - a passive adapter with RJ45 on one end, and
female or male db9 or db25 on the other. Such headshells are supplied
with all SunFire servers. You also can buy tham in many shops,
pin assignments can be found, for instance, of www.stokely.com
(see "UNIX serial port resources" there)

Also, look at hardware guides on docs.sun.com,
specifically,

Hey

Thanks the reply

With the v490 they send in Sun part number 530-2889-03 [This 2 has 9pin
but where do I plug it in to make it work. Since it doesnt fit to a
serial com)
How do I make it work the same way as I did for the regular 9pin.
[9ping serial in back of pc rj45 plugs into it ans other end of rj45
plugs to serial mgt on the sun box]

Thanks
Joe
