Install Solaris 10 - without console and without root password?
|
|
| Tony Sequeira 2006-09-11, 1:31 pm |
| Sunfire 280R. Used for a project that is now complete. Solaris 8
installed.
Everyone who knew the root password for the machine has left and not
available.
No direct console connection, no Sun keyboard. Shares a standard PC
keyboard and console with an AS400 (Hyperterminal).
How to get to the OK prompt, so as to boot from Solaris 10 DVD?

Send BREAK to the serial line. That should get you the OK prompt.

Look in the documentation of your terminal emulator. It should tell you.

Thanks. I'll have a browse when I have a spare moment. Hate to see
this machine go to waste, so have elected to attempt to make use of it,
as long as it doesn't impact paid for work.

You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely.
