A suggestion. Instead of asking how to do something unusual like this,
tell us why you're asking, and what you've tried, and what you learned
from it. The way you're going, it's starting (ahem) to look like you're
not doing any homework yourself whatsoever before running to the group
for help.

What about /var/log/wtmp (without .*)?

Did you try reading the man page for last(1)? It tells you what file it
reads.

Stop top-posting, read the article "How to ask questions the smart way",
and learn from it. A better question would have involved telling us why
you think you want to do it in the first place, because whatever you're
trying to accomplish has probably been figured out in an elegant way
already, that you could benefit from more than just blowing away your
logfiles.
