I need to convert a IDN entered by a web interface into the punycode
notation. I googled for it, but did not find anything yet. could someone
give me a hint please ?

The RFC that covers Punycode includes a reference implementation in C.
Take a look at Appendix C of ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc3492.txt
