I am trying to build a library in IRIX and when a program tries to
dlopen() the library, I get an error, cannot dlopen. I have linked the
library with the -shared option. What else do I need to do to get a
library that can be successfully dlopen()-ed?

Is the library located in one of the LD_LIBRARY_PATH directories?
LD_LIBRARY_PATH is one of the environmental variables.
