Author automake with tcl et al

Hi,

I'd like to use autotools with Tcl/Tk and other not supported programming
languages. Since automake does not support tcl, is the only possible
combination to program the Makefiles directly?

Also: I'd like to "make" the program and being able to test it without
installing it. What is the common aproach there? I know KDevelop provides
such a possibility. Is that just a staged install with fakeroot to a
subdir?

Last: how does one specify default path's to system wide config files?
Hardcode "/etc/<prog>"? Or does one use AC_SUBST with @configure-variables@
on the source code?

Thanks for suggestions,
Ciao
Uwe
