What are they was to control multiple fd such as sockets,

aside from poll/select.
is there a time when forking is a good option?

What about threads?

Admit you know nothing, and the if(then) statement lives.

Is this a statement, a question, or just nonsense?

Yes.

What about them?

You'll get a more constructive reply if you take the time to phrase
your questions in coherent English. Just read back what you posted:
what you wrote means nothing. If you can't phrase your question so
that it's understandable, how is anyone to know what on earth you're
talking about, let alone what you want to achieve? In addition, the
fact that you didn't spend the effort to write the question properly
gives the impression you are careless, haven't taken any time to read
about the subject independently, and don't really want the question
answered.

See http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

You will find the select(2) and poll(2) manual pages instructive.
Read them, write some code to try them out, and if you run into
problems, post them here with the code and a sensible question. I
managed to use them the first time from the manual pages--the manual
is the first place to look. If you use GNU/Linux, "info libc" will
give you even more detailed explanations and code examples.

Regards,
Roger
