This is a resource I prepared for university students who are doing UNIX
software development on remote UNIX (Linux, BSD, whatever) systems. But I
thought I'd mention it here as well.

Introduction to UNIX software development - Typical development environment
using ssh, screen, joe, gcc, gdb on UNIX (Linux, BSD) systems

It covers using, say, PuTTY to remotely log in, using the 'screen' utility
to multiplex screens and thus do emergency resume of broken session. Also
shows basic debugging using gdb. All is illustrated with screenshots.
