I had very good luck with "Unix Shell Programming" by Kochan and Wood.
(See http://www.kochan-wood.com/ .)

The book is in its third edition now, and I believe I used the first
edition (back 15+ years ago when I learned shell programming...), but
if the new edition is anything like as good as the first edition, it
should be a great book for learning shell programming.
