Hello, all-

To preface, I would like to apologize for sounding like an idiot with
no knowledge. In this case, I am just that... an idiot with no
knowledge. I am not typically in charge of the kind of things I am
trying to accomplish here.

We are considering converting an IBM OS/390 system to a Sun Solaris
platform. I've been getting various pieces of information gathered to
determine how doable this is.

Our current system (IBM mainframe) sends two files nightly to our
client via NJE. This is a serial token ring connection, so we have a
3745 between them and us. We have TCP/IP capability, but it is not
yet in place for them.

We are researching two possibilities... staying with the serial
connection or converting them to TCP/IP. TCP/IP is ideal, but we're
not sure if they are ready for the conversion.

The only solutions I have found so far for Solaris sending things via
NJE is when there is hardware attached to make the Sun box channel
connected. We are remote, so we do not intend to be channel connected
to them. We would like to continue sending their files via NJE,
however, as it submits actual processes on their side to start the
processing of the data.

Sorry for the long post. What I'm getting at is...

Can we send data via NJE from a Sun Solaris box?

If so what are the software requirements?

If we stay serially connected, does anyone know what the equivalent
hardware to our 3745 controller is?

Thanks,

TBradshaw
