one-to-one unix help required in london uk

| dear all,
apologies for this slightly unorthodox message. i have recently
purchased an ultra 20 sun workstation for the purpose of learning to
program. i am making what i consider to be good progress under windows
with python, but want to make the shift to the workstation as soon as
possible.
therein lies the rub. folks, i am spinning my wheels uselessly.
yesterday i managed to open Python at the command line, today i cannot
even do that. i cannot find IDLE (though i can find related files). i
cannot reset the search path. any and all 'help' i can find online or
in my unix reference book seems to either be irrelevant or simply
non-functional at the command line.
even the dvd player on the Java desktop refuses to play my dvds. i am
all for tring to figure stuff out by myself, but this is just a waste
of time, i fear. i'd rather get a leg-up here and spend more time
programming. i need some help in person from someone who knows what
they're doing, for which i am, of course, prepared to pay. anyone in
the london area who thinks they have something to offer, please contact
me. i live in N4.
awaiting your kind replies,
sam lynas

A new system might seem daunting, but don't let it impress you. Slow
down a little, and read a couple of unix tutorials. Then you'll be
able to orientate yourself better in your new unix computer.
There are a lot of unix tutorials easily found with google: unix tutorial
For example:

http://www.ischool.berkeley.edu/~ke...torial/toc.html

NEW GRAND UNIFIED THEORY DISCLAIMER: The manufacturer may
technically be entitled to claim that this product is
ten-dimensional. However, the consumer is reminded that this
confers no legal rights above and beyond those applicable to
three-dimensional objects, since the seven new dimensions are
"rolled up" into such a small "area" that they cannot be
detected.

This isn't quite the right group to ask, as it is a questions group,
not a jobs group. There do exist groups with ``jobs'' in the name in
the uk.* hierarchy. I suggest you choose one of those and ask there.
