Hello,
I use UNIX on macs just to run analyses so I know little about it
beyond getting things running. Some analyses take a week to run, some a
few days. I have a dual-core G5 desktop and an MBP core 2 duo.

My question is: when executing a run, can i assign it to run on one of
the two processors? if so, how? I would like the long one to run on one
processor, the short ones to run on the other processor. Even more
ideal, but perhaps not possible, would be to have one analysis run
using both processors. From what I can gather from the Activity
monitor, each program takes up one CPU at most.

Any help is much appreciated!
-Lauren
