Hi to all of you,
I'm a new member of this newsgroup and a new user of an alphaserver.
This machine run OS V5.1A
During the installation I tried to make a custom partition of the only disk
present
but it seems to me that is only possible to use the default 8 partition from
dsk0a to dsk0h.
Is this true or is possible create a new partition that I need?

thanks in advance,
Fabrizio

During installation, you can change the size of partitions and you can
choose which partitions you will and will not use. If you only have a
single boot disk, you must have a dsk0a for the root and a dsk0b for
swap. The /var and /usr directories can remain on a single partition in
different advfs filesets or on seperate partitions on a single fileset
each. During installation you can also choose the size of the partitions.

If you look at the disk after installation using the command disklabel,
you would notice that partitions that you do not use, are actually
marked as unused. In your case this would be at least dsk0c, because
this partition is usually the entire disk.

Read the reference page for disklabel. It is available on the HP website.
