| How come when I install RedHat 8 my floppy and cd are already configured in
fstab, but when I load RedHat 9 I have to manually enter these files?
I still havent managed to get the cd working yet, no matter what entries I
put in fstab.
Ive tried - /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 iso9660 .........etc, etc
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom ............etc etc etc
Ive tried copying exactly from RedHat 8 but still cant get the cd drive
working.
Am I missing something really obvious?

Run Kudzu to fix "new" hardware.

| Went in to hardware Browser and found the cd listed as /dev/scd0. Changed my
fstab to /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro.user 0 0
and it worked.
Thanks for your advice.

Okey, you had SCSI CD-Roms, there seems to be less support for SCSI in the
later versions of Redhat, earlier RedHats like RH7.3 did detect SCSI a lot
better and fixed things automatically with help of kudzu.

Hmmm.... Is the IDE CD device a burner? If yes then this would explain why
your drive under Linux is /dev/scd0

Okey, then somehow your CD-Rom/CD-burner somehow has been automatically loaded
with teh ide-scsi emulation enablaed on the device without that the symlink
/dev/cdrom has been relinked to the right device.
The experience I have had with later RedHat version is that they act strangely
when you have SCSI installed, I have used a machine with IDE harddrives and
SCSI CD-rom/CD-burnes, this combination has worked well under RH7.3 and
earlier, but from Rh8 this combination hasn't worked with the installation CD
(less SCSI mudules supported than in earlier versions).
Due this problem, I thoguth your fault was related, but seems like it's a
kudzu problem.
