Gnome Panel "blinks"

| Hi,
I'm trying to figure out if I've done something wrong.
This is on RH9 (with all updates applied by up2date). I was just
reading my favorite online forum when all of a sudden the GNOME Panel
bar just disappeared. It then reappeared about 30 seconds later as if
I had logged out and logged back in. During the brief time it
disappeared everything else seemed to work fine.
Did I do something wrong? Was this some kind of failed hack attempt?
I haven't been able to find anything about the panel blinking on
google. Can anyone help?
Thanks,
-Tom

I'm not sure if it is related, but the rhn applet had a segmentation
fault today. However the panel hasn't blinked anymore. I'm not sure
where to even being to track down what is wrong. Can someone help?
