Okay:

I first searched the web for this problem
I checked through the fedora 1 faqs and "available" docs
I looked for newsgroups that might pertain to fedora 1
I've tried to get this to work through my own experimentation
I am familiar with Microsoft OS's but still working on linux

I have a Lexar USB 1.1 128mb Jumpdrive with fat16 format (works fine in
mandrake 9.2 on an amptron mboard in a different machine).

I have fedora running on an asus a7v8x mboard w/512mb, amd 2500XL chip,
ati rage video, and 10gb hd. No, I'm not dual booting. I have ALL the
fedora 1 updates installed. I fixed the mozilla flash problem.

The jumpdrive appears to mount but can't recognize fat16 format. It
doesn't open up in the desktop. The system had it set for automount. I
would think that would be necessary to recognize the usb device as it is
inserted.

I've tried to think of everything here, but I'll supply anything else you
need.
