Red Hat General - sound on RH9

Hi,

I've installed RH9 on my laptop and am quite happy with it. There's only
one odd problem with the soundcard (recognized as a VIA Technologies
VT8233 AC97). When playing music files with media player or videos with
mplayer there's a lot of noise. Actually it sounds like the soundcard is
not properly connected.
But when watching a dvd with ogle there's no noise at all just the
video's sound.
So what to do now?
