Just about every tutorial I've read on installing/compiling Apache 2 with SSL tells the reader to use the directive --with-ssl=/path/to/openssl_source. It's the "path to SSL source" part I am having problems with.

What if I already have OpenSSL installed? What is the path to source?

If OpenSSL is already installed from an RPM package does a source directory even exist?

I'm leary of uninstalling the OpenSSL RPM package in order to compile OpenSSL from a downloaded/unpacked source directory because when I run the rpm -e openssl.[ver.num] command, I get a whole list of OpenSSL dependency errors.
