| Friends,
I want to see how Linux works, so I installed Red Hat Linux 9. Found couple
of things and got lost.
Why is it so sloooooow? The machine is Celeron 600 MHz, with 128 MB RAM. I
had heard that Linux would run on lot less than that.
I could not log on to Internet. I connected it to the hub, which is
connected to DSL modem. I had no problem connecting with Windows 2K, or Win
XP. What things do I need to do now?
Then, I want to do different things to see how it is with Linux. Where do I
start?
As I said earlier, I have no idea about Linux, (though I consider myself a
techie  ...) so please any helps, pointers, tips would be highly
appreciated.

Read the documentation that comes with Redhat. It's online too at
www.redhat.com.

If you want a graphical environment, you should have at least 192MB RAM,
and preferably more if you're using KDE or GNOME. Try using blackbox or
someother lighter-weight display manager.

How are you connecting with WinXP? DHCP or static configuration? Run
redhat-config-network and enter the same settings you're using under WinXP.

Decide what you need to do, then find out how to do it. If you're a
techie, consider what you would tell somebody who said, "I just finished
installing windows, where do I start?"

I did go to redhat.com and read the pdf file regarding network, but did not
understand a lot.

Yes I am using KDE. I have heard that there is another GUI called IceVM (or
something like that) which is a much less resource consuming as compared to
KDE. Would that help?

Yup, really helped. And now, I know exactly what I want to do, somehow
figure it out... I guess this very slow response somehow threw me off.

This hard to find?! https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/
A lot to read, even for beginners. If you do not understand anything from
that you should probably go to a training course with experienced users.
