i have redhat 7.2 installed and running as our network firewall (using
iptables). had another machine that i now installed redhat 9 on and am
trying to use my iptables...big frustration! i am a fish outta
water...should anyone toss a little water my way i would appreciate it.
i have tried:
- putting my old iptables into /etc/sysconfig/ - failed
- tried removing lokkit - failed
- tried copying over the older version of iptables - failed
- read and tried all sorts of other documentation...nothing seems to work.
thank you for your help,
heidi
ps. as you can probably tell - i am new to linux - anything would be
helpful!

You may not want to do this but...

I use an old PC as my Internet gateway. This way I always have
my connection up and running. Coyote linux works great and is
extremely easy to setup.

| Hi,
|
| Iptables is outdated and has been replaced with "ipchains" in RedHat's newer
| versions (since RHL 7.3 maybe?). I don't know much about ipchains but I bet
| you can find info about in with Google.

Actually, I think you have the situation reversed. Ipchains is the old
firewall code, iptables is the newer code.
