Hi,

I'm running RHL 7.0 for a couple of years now.

I posted asking how to upgrade my Samba because I now have WinXP clients and
I need to upgrade Samba make it to work with XP.

I got a suggestion to use apt.

I DL'd apt and installed and initialized it.

I cannot get it to upgrade my Samba, which is version 2.0.10 - ootb RHL 7.0.

It always says either, "The follwing 8 packages will be upgraded", of which
Samba is not one - or, "The version of Samba you have is already up to
date", which it most definitely is not.

Is there a way to get this done with apt?

I've tried other ways but there are always dependencie issues. Someone
called it dependency hell, (a side of Linux I find increasingly disturbing
as my version gets older and older).

I'd rather not get into upgrade hell at this point since I have FTP, HTTP
and SSH all configured as well as my game servers and a zillion other
details - you know how tweaked you can get a system in a couple of years!

Can ayone help?

TIA

Chet
