I need some newbie help in setting this up. So far users can send email but
can not receive them from outside.
What do I have to configure so users can receive mail?

Thank you,
FamMan

I was running a email server when I was running a Windows XP server. So no
ports are blocked and I want to do webmail only. The Windows environment
wasn't stable enough for all that I want to do. Oh yeah, I have squirrelmail
running.
I'm kind of new to the Linux arena so all info. and help is appreciated.

Can you Telnet/SSH to port 25? If not check IPTABLES -L to see if your port
25 is open. Also check if your mail server is running. After that inform us
if the problem still exists.

You need a MTA (mail transfer agent) program like Sendmail or Postfix. I
found Postfix much more straightforward to configure. They have good
documentation available. Just be sure and pay close attention to the setup
so that you don't become an open relay for spam.

I'm fairly new to mail, but on my redhat box I have successfully gotten
sendmail up and running. I used Webmin to configure it. I cant tell you
specifically what I did but it was no hard. The defaults that redhat uses
are reasonably paranoid. I had to configure it to allow relaying from my
internal network. Since you are using squirrelmail I assume you also have
Apache running, Webmin is able to configure it as well.

Senmail is hard to configure, fortunately on redhat it more or less is
operational as the package installs it. You will need your own domain name
and I recommend an external site to handle updating dns if you don't have a
static address or don't feel like getting shafted by your ISP for one. ($20
a month for them doing nothing bet assigning it??? what a rip!) If you
register through something like godaddy.com and use something like
zoneedit.com for the dns you should have a decent solution for about $10.00
a year. avoid dns sites that force you to use their domain, like
"NameYouWant.ThierName.com". with zoneedit and a very few others you
actually get "NameYouWant.com". A program like DDClient will update the
address as it changes.

Be sure the outside world can get to port 25! Very important!

Hope that helps. I got it to work...Took awhile but I'm a newbie so it cant
be that hard...

Once you get all that going, Wala! Email! If I could do it so can you!
