X not working on my RedHat 9 installation !?

Hi!

I just installed RedHat9 on an older machine, and I can't get xserver to
work on that machine.

graphics card: S3 Virge/DX
monitor: Smile CA6536SL(NF)
XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release: 4.3.0-2)

When running "startx", I get some lines like this:

(WW) s3: No matching Device section for instance

and then

(EE) No devices detected

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I also already found it quite strange that I could not get the RedHat
installation to run in graphic mode...

Could anyone tell me how to resolve this problem?
I'm not really an experienced Linux user, so some guidance would be welcome
