Author LDAP Config problem

I converted my RH8 build to use LDAP for NSS and PAM a while ago. I used the
migration scripts to populate the db and all has run well.

However, I went to change the run mode (5 -> 3) this evening and LDAP would
not start.

As a consequence I'm completely locked out of my system.

When I try and boot from scratch I can see various auth failures occurring
before slapd is called and when it is it fails.

I'm presuming this is an load ordering issue, but did not see it documented?

I've tried the sysadmin disk and my emergency boot disk but these have been
frustrated by my Promise RAID card drivers not loading.

Any ideas on how I can get to the file system appreciated as I only need to
get to two files to return to using the passwd file?

regards

Alan
