I have a 17" screen and would like more than 80 columns in text mode.
(HP Ultra VGA 1280). the max. res. is 1280 x 1024 I believe.
How can I do this on kernel 2.4.20 or 2.4.22 (RH9)?

Erik;

If you are running LILO then there is a setting for your
/etc/lilo/lilo.conf file that goes like this:

vga=0 #for normal

Change that. Check out the man page on lilo for additional settings
though.

Yes I found that out just now.
But those changes to grub.conf (too) just give more characters on a
line/lines on a screen.
the chars just become smaller and more ragged.
I don't thing pixels per line increases...
Something else is needed for that...
Has something to do with hor and vert sync frequencies or so...
we plow on...
