This is an embaressing question but I'm having trouble figuring out how to set
the domainname of my RH9 box at boot. I've added the desired domainname to
/etc/defaultdomain and /etc/sysconfig/network. I haven't been able to find the script
that actually sets it.

Does anyone know off hand how it gets set?

You could try looking through /etc/rc.d/init.d/network
