Red Hat Configuration - Very much newbie

I have just installed RH 9, with no problem until I tried to shut down
Gnome to try KBE. I cannot figure out how to do it. This is my first
experience with Linux and I will need line by line or step by step
instruction. Any help would be appreciated.

in panel menu goto system tools => more systemtools => desktop switching
tool restart X by opening terminal type 'init 3' enter and 'startx' enter.

second option is when you use graphical login on the bottom of the login
screen there is an option named Session click it and choose your desktop.
