Fedora Core does/doesn't see the CD
|
|
|
| I try to install fedora on an old Siemens primergy 351 with only scsi
stuff in it
I insert the CD 1 and statr the machine. It boots up from CD, I see
the Fedora splash end it starts booting OK.
After choosing language etc... it complains the CD can't be found in
the player.
Installing RedHat 9 from the 3 cd's goes well on this machine.
WHat is happening here ?
any solution ?
frgr

During install switch on one of the other consoles with Strg+Fx, where Fx
is function key 3 or 4. You should see system information and error
messages. Maybe you have to send the scsi driver module a special command.

Thank you for your input.
I had a look at those screensand I see the following on one of them
(Alt-F3 ?):
<4> Attached SCSI CDROM sr0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 5, lun 0
<4> sr0: scsi-1 drive
<6> uniform CDROM drive revision 3.12
and on the other screen (alt-F2 ?) the following:
* trying to mount CD device scd0
This is seen AFTER I booted up from that same CD, after choosing the
install language. I sued no startup parameters like "linux text" or
so.
Strange that the RH9 linux CD's work flawlessly.
Any ideas where to look ?

Of course, Alt+Fx and nothing with Strg.

Did you run a media check to see if the CD is not broken? If not, do it!
Normally on one of the console screens (Alt+F2 to Alt+F5) you must see any
error message.
What hardware are you using? What SCSI controller is that and what driver
is loaded for it?

solution !!!
WHen it complains about the FC1 disc not being there, I eject the CD,
then insert it again, wait 3 seconds and press Enter.
Then in continues installation.
Maybe it's because the machine is an old Fujitsu/Siemens Primergy 351
and probably an old CDRom player too....
thnx
