I have this problem with a Compaq EN Small Pentium II System:

When I plug in an usb printer, I get this from /var/log/messages:

Nov 4 11:47:14 host kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
Nov 4 11:47:14 host kernel: usb.c: registered new driver hub
Nov 4 11:47:14 host kernel: usb.c: registered new driver usblp
Nov 4 11:47:14 host kernel: printer.c: v0.11: USB Printer Device Class
driver

modprobe printer runs without error message.

These are the loaded modules:

Module Size Used by Not tainted
printer 8960 0 (unused)
usbcore 79072 0 [printer]

/proc/bus/usb remains empty

lsusb tells me only of unknown lines.

Did I miss anything?
