| Our Linux installation HANGS at the point it would go into the graphical
shell. We *suspect* that this is a problem with a video setting, which
Linux doesn't handle well.
Is there ANY way that we can specify *during the boot sequence* to by pass
the graphical shell and go into text mode instead? We are unable to edit
any configuration files like /etc/inittab, because this system hangs before
we can login.

Append the number "3" at the end of the kernel line by editing it on grub
boot prompt. Press "a" to do so.
