Still haven't got this to work on my ASUS A7V board (KT133).
I have limited the number of drivers to as few as possible (all those I use
compile), but still get some error messages about unknown symbols when
installing modules.

When booting, it gives the message "uncompressin" and "booting", but then
nothing happens (not sure if the listing from 2.4 is still there), then the
screen flashes black and the computer reboots.

I guess there are things that I may have not selected that are needed to get
it to work, I hope someone has some suggestion, here follows a list of
hardware and rpms installed:

Hardware:
ASUS A7V (KT133)
nVidia GF4 Ti4200
D-Link 510T
SB Live! 5.1 Play
AHA 2940 (SCSI)

RPMS:
mkinitrd-3.5.7-2
modutils-2.4.25-8
gcc-3.2.2-10
glibc-2.3.2-51 (the 2.3.2-57 don't compile for Athlon)
glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.18 (compiled against the 2.6.0-test1 source)

Yes, the 2.6.0-test1 is the vanilla version.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Hi!

I am sure http://lwn.net/Articles/39901/ will help you to this problem.

"- Blank screen after decompressing kernel?
Make sure your .config has
CONFIG_INPUT=y, CONFIG_VT=y, CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y and
CONFIG_VT_CONSOLE=y
A lot of people have discovered that taking their .config from 2.4 and
running make oldconfig to pick up new options leads to problems,
notably
with CONFIG_VT not being set."

Yes, thanks, I noticed that I didn't have the three last ones and the
CONFIG_INPUT was as module.

Had been nice if it had said in the README or INSTALL file about this problem.

Sadly I noticed in a feature list that LVM wasn't supported yet, so I guess I
won't be able to access my /home when testing the kernel.

After your mentioned options, I get a bit futher away on my boot with the
kernel, now I get to the memory cheking:

0MB HIGHMEM avaible
895MB LOWMEM avaible
On node 0 total pages: 229356

Afther that, nothing more happens... is this another known problem or
somethign I managed to mess by selecting something wrong in the kernel?
