I'm trying to run up2date -uv on RH8 and I keep getting a message that
the updated kernel packages are marked to be skipped by my
configuration. I found a file in /etc/sysconfig/rhn called up2date and
there are a couple of lines in there that look like:
pkgSkipList=kernel*;
removeSkipList=kernel*;

so I deleted both of them but am still getting the error that kernel
packages are marked to be skipped. How can I change it to not skip the
kernel updates?

It probably creates it's own database, and simply deleting the lines in the
conf file may not do it. Try running the configurator. See man up2date

I think the command is up2date -c

Try running up2date without -uv (no options). I normally get a gui
that lets me select everthing when I run it this way.
