| Hi,
I'd like to use the kernel.org standard
kernel with my redhat9 distribution,
since it's faster and more adapted than
than the redhat kernel.
Problem ist, that I cannot connect to
internet with my adsl line with this
kernel.
Here are the error messages:
Aug 25 21:17:07 papst kernel: PPP
generic driver version 2.4.2
Aug 25 21:17:07 papst pppd[2451]: pppd
2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
Aug 25 21:17:07 papst pppd[2451]: Using
interface ppp0
Aug 25 21:17:07 papst pppd[2451]:
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/0
Aug 25 21:17:07 papst
/etc/hotplug/net.agent: assuming ppp0 is
already up
Aug 25 21:17:38 papst pppd[2451]: LCP:
timeout sending Config-Requests
Aug 25 21:17:38 papst pppd[2451]:
Connection terminated.
Aug 25 21:17:38 papst
/etc/hotplug/net.agent: NET unregister
event not supported
Aug 25 21:17:42 papst pppoe[2452]:
Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Aug 25 21:17:42 papst pppd[2451]: Exit.
I find the message from
/etc/hotplug/net.agent very strange,
which says "assuming ppp0 is already up"
ppp0 is NOT up at that point.
The kernel has hotplugging enabled.
This is a very strange behaviour, since
all ppp_* modules are being loaded
without any error messages.
I've also tried to comile a new ppp
version, with a pppoe patch, which
caused the same message.
What can I do ??
Why can redhat not implement a
transparent pppoe connection with a
kernel driver and NOT with this
userspace rp-pppoe stuff, which is an
extremely old technology.
greets Boris
