Author RPM stopped working... help

Hi,

Suddenly rpm stopped working. I upgraded recently to version 4.1-1.06 (part
of redhat 80). I was able to install, upgrade and remove several rpms this
way. Today suddenly it didn't work anymore. when i -i -Uvh or -e or even -qa
the rpm seems to hang. It won't stop without being killed. I
tried --rebuilddb, but that also hangs. Anyone an idea how to revive rpm or
how to install it from source (where to get the source???).

Thanks,

I'm pretty desperate. I do install most software from tar.gz, but some thing
are just more practical with rpms

Yours,

Willem Kossen

look in your /var/lib/rpm and you will find some files named __db.001,
__db.002 and __db.003, delete thise and your problem will most liekly be gone.
I do suggest you do update the RPM that you have, as the one for RH8 is
extremly buggy.

If yousing an RPM based system, then it's best to only use RPMs or you get
those dependency problems sooner or later.

Dude,

It's not too hard to fix. Before you rebuild the rpm database (rpm --rebuild)

you delete the __db.001 and __db.002 somewhere under the /var/lib/rpm
directory. Sorry, I can't seem to find the files at the moment. Hope
this helps
