Using RH Update

I updated my box from RH 5.2 to 9. I see that there is a nice automatic RPM
updater that looks similar to the XP updater. I tried it and I think I
discovered that I have to pay a subscription fee to RH to use the updater.
Is that correct or am I missing something?
