| Hi, apologies if this is the wrong newsgroup for this sort of thing, but I
am having a real problem with installing new RPMs using the rpm command: I
keep getting an error message of the form Segmentation fault (core dumped).
I have tried various things:
(a) rpm --rebuilddb -vv: this runs OK, but doesn't seem to fix the problem
(b) deleting the __db files and rebuilding: again this runs OK, butdoesn't
fix the problem
(c) if I run rpm -Va, then I get a segmentation fault error immediately.
(d) if I run rpm -V on each of the installed RPMs (c. 400), then about ten
of them give segmentation faults.
(e) running up2date gives rise to an SSL_CONNECT error which seems to be
associated with out-of-date certificates at Redhat. However, the recommended
fix is to install updated rpms which I can't currently do for the above
reason.
I've googled around a bit, but nothing new has come to light (other than
seeing other people having the same problem). What is the best way of
recovering from this state? Is there a way of rebuilding the RMP database in
such a way as to give a clean start?
I have Redhat 7.1 with various upgrades applied over the last couple of
years running on a fairly standard i386 box.
Thanks in advance for any help. Martin
