Similarly, with an Apple Studio Display 17" LCD (ADC)
with Dr.Bott's DVI-ator, driven by an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
All-In-Wonder card, it is driven ok by Anaconda installer,
and runs fine in console mode, but all X11 configurators
plus some manual hacking on XF86Config, always results
in a black screen (even backlight powers off), rather than
a usable graphics display, when I startx.
The Apple Website offers insufficient information about
the operational parameters of the LCD panel to hand hack
things like dot clock and horizontal frequency.
I'm running a fully up2date RH9 system on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0.
I had similar problems trying to get YellowDog Linux 2.3 to
run this display in a Beige G3 MiniTower/266 with an
ATI Radeon 7000 Mac Edition's Digital DVI port.
Since it works in console mode, there has to be some valid
configuration, but Google Searching only produced other people
who have this problem, but no solutions. Has anyone either found
the necessary documentation on Apple LCD displays, or back-engr'd?
