I upgraded from ES3 to ES4. gdm will no longer start. The screen
blanks then a hour glass cursor appears for several seconds on a black
screen and it goes back to the text terminal login. This also happens when
I start gdm from the command line in a console terminal. I can start X by
logging in on a console terminal and using 'startx'. I can start KDE and
Gnome as a normal user and root.
