Installed Fedora Core 2 "everything" install from burnt DVD, with
multimedia extensions from freshrpms.net (all multimedia libs, all xmms
extensions, and xine), followed by "yum -y update". System running on
precompiked 2.6.5 kernel, on an AMD Athlon XP 2200+, Abit NF7-M
motherboard with nForce2 IGP chipset. No other applicable hardware.

Am having trouble with applications not playing back simultaneously -
sound effects in Mozilla will stop playback in xmms after current track,
and occupy sound device until all instances are closed.

Is there a solution to this problem not involving recompilation of kernel
or other software?
