[Newbie] Failure when installing 9.0 on a Dell Latitude C600 laptop

Hello experts,

Hard to remember my passed Unix times...

Trying to set up RedHat 9.0 on a Dell Latitude C600 laptop. It installs okay
but never starts X. Reason seems to be that it does not probe the monitor
(Samsung LTN141P2) and whatever I have done to try to fix this, X never
comes up...Tried a Generic monitor or a Dell laptop default 1024x768, no
success!!

The XFree86Config logfile states that the horiz frequency is bad. The values
were set from 42-57.

Any hints?
